Notably, includes two letters from women poets reflecting on the personal impact of Jong’s novel “Fear of Flying.” The collection suggests the influence of Jong's groundbreaking treatment of women and sexuality on contemporary authors, as well as the development of Jong's own work as a poet and novelist. Mix of hardcover and paperback books, from various publishers, published between 1956 and 2013, including some first editions. The signatures and inscriptions are dated 1961-2013 and provide insight into what Jong was reading at different points in her career, including her time as an undergraduate student at Barnard and the period of time surrounding the publication of her first book of poetry "Fruits & Vegetables" (1971) and her first novel "Fear of Flying" (1973). Many of the books are poetry titles; poets represented include William Empson, Dylan Thomas, Alan Dugan, Edward Field, Ron Loewinsohn, Elaine Feinstein, Osip Mandelstam, Gertrud Kolmar, Lord Byron, and others. Very Good overall.

Jacqueline Sanders-van Maarsen (1929-2025) is best known for being Anne Frank's best friend. In June 1942, Anne wrote in her diary: "Jacqueline van Maarsen, whom I only just got to know at the Jewish Lyceum, is now my best friend." She is also referred to as Jopie in the diary. The van Maarsen family survived the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, when Jacqueline's formerly Catholic mother convinced the authorities that they were not Jewish and that the "J" should be removed from their identity cards.

After the war, van Maarsen was one of the first people to whom Anne's father Otto Frank showed Anne's diary. The diary includes a goodbye letter from Anne to van Maarsen. After the war, van Maarsen trained in bookbinding in Paris and became an award-winning bookbinder. She successfully hid her identity as Anne Frank’s best friend for decades, embracing the anonymity of working in her binding studio and using her married name Sanders. After noticing that some individuals were taking advantage of Anne Frank’s story for their own benefit, van Maarsen felt obliged to go public with her identity and "to write for the one who could no longer write." She then reclaimed the van Maarsen name and wrote five books about Anne Frank and the dangers of antisemitism.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0752/2697/2473/files/000392_1_ac453d56-076f-40bc-aea6-2a2bf57babad.jpg?v=1734736264
de-lanalyse-de-la-force
De l'analyse de la force

Title: De l'analyse de la force

Author: Galitzine, Eudoxie

Publication: Paris: Imprimerie de A. Izmailov and Duchess A. B. Yusupova. In 1799 she married the aristocrat Prince Sergei Golitsyn, but the two soon separated with the prince remaining in Moscow and the princess moving to Saint Petersburg. She was known for her salons in St. Petersburg, attended by writers like A.S. Pushkin. Her interests in metaphysics, mathematics, and mysticism resulted in this work. M.C. Nathaniel Hawthorne vacillated between acknowledging and dismissing her talent and wrote to the publisher William Ticknor, "These are admirable poems of Mrs. Howe's, but the devil must be in the woman to publish them...," and later, "'Passion Flowers' were delightful; but she ought to have been soundly whipt for publishing them." Despite the outrage, the book was successful, selling out its initial run of 1000 copies, followed by two more editions within four months. She continued her activism and writing throughout her life and in 1908 became the first woman elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. More recently, Howe's incomplete novel with an intersex protagonist was published as "The Hermaphrodite" (2004).

References: - Blanck, J.
