Bound uniformly in contemporary full tree calf over boards, sympathetically rebacked; smooth spine gilt with floral tools in the upper compartment, black title label, a bird atop a red oval volume label, and circles and a foliate spray above an urn; marbled endpapers. 7 x 4.5 inches; 3 volumes: xv, [1], 235, [1] pages, [1] leaf of plates; 263, [1] pages, [1] leaf of plates; 263, [1] pages; [1] leaf of plates. Contemporary former owner annotations: \"Written by Mad. D'Arblay\" on title page of vol. 1 and \"Rhode House\" on front free endpapers of each volume. Later acquired by Arthur Williams Hall (1873-1952) of Massachusetts, bibliophile and manufacturer of laboratory equipment; thence by descent through three generations. Moderate edgewear, spines dry with chipping of the lettering pieces, offsetting of plates onto facing title pages, and mild foxing. Very Good. Early editions of \"Evelina\" are scarce in commerce. At time of cataloging, we find no other complete copies of this or earlier editions in English.
