Sloan of Syracuse, possibly Alfred Earl Sloan (1820-1902), educator and founder of schools for girls. Later acquired by Arthur Williams Hall (1873–1952) of Massachusetts, bibliophile and manufacturer of laboratory equipment, with his neat pencil notes on front pastedown; thence by descent through three generations. Binding with moderate soiling and wear, with chipping to spine ends; interior with scattered foxing.
