The poem was first published anonymously in Punch Magazine in 1847. Text printed by Berwick & Smith and phototype illustrations printed by The Lewis Company. Tipped-in frontispiece portrait of the author. In publisher's brown cloth binding with a wood veneer onlay on the front cover and lettering stamped in gilt; top edge gilt. 14 x 11 inches; 54 unnumbered pages. Binding is conspicuously worn, with moderate bumping and fraying at the corners, scuffing, some loss to head and tail of spine, and started hinges. Small loss to top-right corner of first few leaves, not affecting the text or illustrations; moderate foxing throughout the text. Good only.
