Includes a history of the order, comparisons of the Codex Rosae Crucis with other manuscripts, and a facsimile and translation of the original manuscript. Illustrated throughout in orange and black, with color and black-and-white plates, including one fold-out plate. Bound in full red cloth, stamped in gilt with Rosicrucian symbol on front cover and title on spine. 14.5 x 10 inches (folio-sized); [4], 51, [1] pages, 28 leaves (printed on recto and verso), 109-113, [3] pages (first and last leaves blank), [4] leaves of plates. Endleaves with several bookplates of former owners Gérard van Rijnberk and W. Oliemans, an ink annotation by M.L. van Rijnberk on the occasion of her husband's death on September 30, 1953, and a few old booksellers' notes in pencil. Title page with Van Rijnberk's stamp and Oliemans' signature. Binding with light wear to the extremities and interior with light toning and several annotations in pencil by a former owner. Very Good+ to Near Fine. Rare, with Worldcat showing just two institutional copies (British Library and Bibliothèque nationale de France). A classic work on Rosicrucianism. Former owner Gérard Abraham van Rijnberk (1875-1953) was a professor of physiology and the longest-reigning editor-in-chief of Nederlandsch Tijdschrift voor Geneeskunde (Dutch Journal of Medicine). He was also a book collector and author of occult works, such as "Le tarot: Histoire, iconographie, ésotérisme."
