Description: A collection of eight dance event program booklets from Iowa colleges, issued between 1950 and 1952. Seven booklets are from Iowa State College, now known as Iowa State University, and one from University of Iowa. Most programs list the event committee, the musicians, and the date and location of the event, with some listing invited guests. All the booklets are tied with a twisted cord, most of which have tassels. Many were printed by Laurance Press Company, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a couple by Harding's, Chicago. Light edgewear, one booklet with a name writtten in ink. All Near Fine, except for one Very Good booklet with slightly more wear. A snapshot of college life in the midwestern United States between the end of World War II and the advent of rock and roll, when big bands were still important.

In chronological order: 1. "Snow Dream." Event held at Iowa Memorial Union Lounge, December 8, 1950, presented by Currier Hall (University of Iowa, Iowa City). In pale blue wrappers printed in silver, with metallic silver cord, designed by Mary Powers. 2.25 x 3.25 inches; [4] pages. -- 2. "Homecoming, 1951, Presents..." Event held at Memorial Union (Iowa State College), October 12-13, 1951, featuring Dick Haymes and Frankie Masters orchestra. Photo of Doris Blair, Homecoming Queen on last page. In textured dark blue wrappers printed in gold, white and black, with white cord. 4.125 x 3.625 inches; [4] pages. -- 3. "Magic Mist." Event held at Memorial Union (Iowa State College), October 27, 1951, featuring Benny Strong and his orchestra, presented by the Home Economics Divison. In cream wrappers printed in blue, with blue cord. 2.5 x 3 inches; [4] pages (on double leaves). -- 4. "Men's Residence Association Presents The Second Annual November Nocturne." Event held on November 3, 1951, with music by Roger Loots. In metallic gold wrappers with a transparent overlay printed in black, red cord. 2.5 x 3.5 inches; [4] pages. -- 5. "Sweetheart Ball of 1951." Event held at Memorial Union (Iowa State College), December 8, 1951, featuring Henry Charles, "stylist of sweet swing", presented by the Independent Student Association. In textured cream die-cut wrappers over second wrapper of coated red paper, with a red and white cord. 2.5 x 3.25; [4] pages. Includes page for recording dances (dance card}. -- 6. "Soirée Enchantée." Event held at Memorial Union Great Hall, February 16, 1952, featuring Jimmy Smith and his orchestra, presented by the Dormitory System.
