Description: Lord Byron wrote this scathing satirical poem in response to harsh reviews of his first book of poems "Hours of Idleness." Third genuine authorized edition. All watermarks as described in Wise, not post-1810 watermarks as seen in spurious reprints. Bound in full green goatskin leather over boards, covers gilt with decorative roll and double-fillet frame, gilt spine with six raised bands, turn-ins and board edges gilt with decorative rolls and stamp "Taylor and Hessey, booksellers, London," brown endpapers, all edges gilt. 7.75 x 5 inches; vii, [1], 85, [1] pages. Half-title present, last advertisement leaf wanting. Contemporary ink ownership markings on front free endpaper. Later acquired by Arthur Williams Hall (1873-1952) of Massachusetts, bibliophile and manufacturer of laboratory equipment, with his pencil notes on the front free endpaper; thence by descent through three generations. Binding with moderate wear and a rather sunned spine; interior with a few marginal stains, else quite clean. Very Good+. Reference: Wise, T.J.
