Albrecht von Haller (1708-1777) was a Swiss anatomist, physiologist, botanist, and poet, one of the most influential scholars of the eighteenth century. This book of poems contains his best known literary work "Die Alpen" ("The Alps"). It was first published anonymously in 1732 along with nine other poems in "Versuch Schweizerischer Gedichten" ("Attempt at Swiss Poems"). Ten more editions appeared under Haller's name during his lifetime, with additional revisions and commentary. This is a copy of the eighth edition.
