Printed for private circulation by Gilbert and Rivington (also issued in a special edition with a half leather binding). On laid paper; title page printed in red and black. Bound in full red cloth with blind-stamped borders on the covers and gilt lettering on the spine, top edge gilt. Large octavo; [4], 542, [2] pages, [50] leaves of plates; [A]4 B-X8 [Y]8 Z8 2A-2L8 2M4 2N2 (first leaf blank); 11.25 x 8.25 inches. Laid in is a newspaper clipping from The Daily Express (London), dated July 16, 1921, on care of roses. Binding significantly sunned and edgeworn, front hinge starting, offsetting to endpapers, but a clean and bright interior. A Very Good copy of an important reference work for gardeners and horticulturalists interested in Victorian-era plants and gardens.
