Title: [Seven samples of decorated papers from Germany, circa 1920s]

Publication: [Germany]: [Various manufacturers], [1920s?].

Description: Seven samples of early 20th-century decorated papers from Germany, including batik paper, block-printed paper, crinkled paper, and brushed paste paper with an impressed pattern. The papermakers are identified for each sample and include Java-Kunst of Berlin, Ottilie Volkhardt of Munich, Das Werk of Munich, Malwe Unger and Hanna Girl of Berlin, and Meissner & Buch of Leipzig.

7 samples, ranging in size from 3 x 4.25 inches to 4 x 6 inches, pasted on three unbound leaves, with names of papermakers printed in black at foot of recto and verso. Glue residue in areas where two samples have been removed and black marker cross-outs in the margins, but the samples clean and brightly-colored. Good. The samples include papers from women papermakers, such as Ottilie Volkhardt and Hanna Girl. At the International Exhibition for the Book Trade and Graphic Arts (Bugra), Volkhardt received a silver prize in the bookbinding category of the special exhibition "Women in the Book Trade and Graphic Arts."
