Title: Stop Grand Jury Repression!
Author: John Brown Anti-Klan Committee
Publication: Chicago, Illinois: John Brown Anti-Klan Committee, 1989.
Description: Broadside from the Chicago, Illinois chapter of the John Brown Anti-Klan Committee (JBAKC), dated July 1989. One 8.5 x 11 sheet of white paper, with text in black on recto and verso. Moderate creasing and light toning. Very Good. This broadside advertises a demonstration in Chicago against the grand jury subpoena of Bob Wells and Henry "Camomile" Bortman with regards to a threatening letter sent to a U.S. Attorney. The broadside asserts that Wells and Bortman are innocent and suggests that the letter had been sent by a right-wing organization or by the government in COINTELPRO-like activity. Worldcat lists no institutional holdings for the broadside. Named after 19th-century abolitionist John Brown, the John Brown Anti-Klan Committee (JBAKC) was an anti-racist organization that organized against the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) and other white supremacist groups. It was founded in the late 1970s in response to KKK organizing among New York State prison guards. JBAKC was most active in New York City, Chicago, and San Francisco.
