Description: First Hugh Thomson-illustrated edition, in a reissue of the Cranford series binding design. Introduction by Austin Dobson. Light contemporary owner inscription in pencil on flyleaf. Later acquired by Arthur Williams Hall (1873-1952) of Massachusetts, bibliophile and manufacturer of laboratory equipment, with his small pencil note on the front pastedown; thence by descent through three generations. Mild edgewear, spine with slight lean and touch of fading to the gilt, and browned tissue guard at frontispiece. Near Fine, with the gilt bright on the front cover and a clean interior. This binding design previously appeared in the 1896 Cranford-series edition of this title, which was illustrated by Thomas Heath Robinson, rather than Thomson.
