Marie Dressler (1868-1934; birth name: Leila Marie Koerber) began her acting career in theater, gaining success on Broadway and later also starring in Hollywood films. She played Tillie in Tillie's Punctured Romance (1914), the first full-length comedy film, alongside Charlie Chaplin and Mabel Normand. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Min and Bill (1930).
