Description: Collection of Stowe's short stories, essays, and poetry, published a few years after "Uncle Tom's Cabin," with the author's autograph sentiment signed card adhered to front pastedown: "Sincerely yours, Harriet Beecher Stowe, May 5, 1892." Extended edition, with additional chapters not included in the first edition of "The Mayflower" (1843). Frontispiece portrait (State A) and added pictorial title page. Bound in publisher's original full green cloth over boards, stamped in blind and gilt, with yellow endpapers. 7.75 x 5 inches; 471, [1] pages, 8 pages of publisher's advertisements, [2] leaves of plates. Bookplate on front pastedown, with name obliterated. Later acquired by Arthur Williams Hall (1873-1952) of Massachusetts, bibliophile and manufacturer of laboratory equipment, with his neat pencil notes on the front pastedown and margin of p. [9]; thence by descent through three generations. Binding with moderate wear, spotting, and sunned spine; interior with occasional soiling and foxing and a couple slightly sprung gatherings. Good+.
