Title: Transvestites & Transsexuals: Mixed Views

Author: Feinbloom, Deborah Heller

Publication: [New York]: Delacorte Press, 1976.

Description: Case studies and sociological analysis based on the author's research in transgender and crossdressing communities in the late 1960s-early 1970s. First edition, first printing. Bound in quarter russet cloth with brown paper over boards, with lettering stamped in gilt on spine; in original unclipped dust jacket. 8.5 x 5.75 inches; vii, [5], 303, [1] pages. Book with light edgewear, slight lean to spine, and slight musty smell; dust jacket with a touch of edgewear. Very Good+ in Very Good+ or better jacket.

The author was a sociologist who established a Gender Identity Service in the Boston area to provide gender-affirming care to trans people. Rather than treating gender non-conforming practices and identities as a medical disorder, Feinbloom was one of the first practitioners who approached the community with empathy and acceptance. The "Mixed Views" subtitle is a reference to sociological methodology. Content note: Some of the terms and analysis in the book, though cutting-edge at the time, are now considered outdated.
